Salt and Light Children’s Discipleship is a Non Profit Organization that equips people in the community to share the good news of Jesus Christ with children from ages 4 to 14 by means of hearing, saying and doing.
Salt & Light Kids was birthed out of a desire to see the next generation of children walk in their God given identity. It all started with a few praying mothers that were concerned about the spiritual well being of their school children.
Research shows that children between the ages of four and fourteen years are the most important part of the population to minister to because during these stages of development kids are most teachable and open to make a commitment for Jesus.
Johanessa Viljoen, co-founder of Salt & Light Kids had a desire to see children pray for one another and share the good news of Jesus Christ with one another. A few praying mothers took hands and turned into a group of moms praying at two schools and this multiplied and NOW more than 4 320 kids are reached with the gospel on a weekly basis through a united team of committed volunteers. The Lord has truly been so faithful in helping us to not only in casting the vision but also to make it work!
Soon after the principal saw what the impact of people praying for his school was he asked Salt & Light to draw up a business plan to incorporate a discipleship program for the kids. At that stage Johanessa had no idea where to begin but she knew that she was commissioned to teach children in primary schools to pray together.
Jaco Viljoen, who is married to Johanessa, is the current Director of Salt and Light Kids. He left his full time commuting job in Pretoria during 2013 to join Johanessa fulltime with the work in Paarl. The call to disciple the younger generation burned inside of their hearts.
The NPO Salt and Light Children’s Discipleship was officially established in May 2013.
Today Salt & Light Kids reach out to more than 16 different schools in Drakenstein Municipality. We are committed to see a generation of children transformed by the good news of Jesus Christ.
